Rare ‘Damascene’ bracelet in gold, iron and lacquer, designed by Angela Cummings and made by Tiffany & Co. The bracelet is made of iron applied to a black lacquer and decorated with a superimposed geometric design in 24 ct gold. This bracelet is part of the ‘Damascene’ collection that Cummings created for Tiffany in the late 1970s and early 1980s, inspired by her study of the Japanese tradition of shakudo. The collection, limited to a few different models and shapes, was included in the Tiffany Blue Book in both 1978 and 1979. Bears the engraved T&C hallmark, gr 70.1


Angela Cummings is one of the most renowned jewelry designers of the 20th and 21st centuries and, together with Paloma Picasso, Jean Schlumberger and Elsa Peretti, one of the most innovative designers who worked in collaboration with Tiffany & Co.\nBorn in Austria in 1944, she moved with her family to the United States when she was three years old. She later returned to Europe to study at the Academy of Art in Perugia and at the Zeichenakademie in Germany, where she graduated in goldsmithing and gemology. Gifted with a talent for metalworking and designing, after honing her skills in Europe she returned to the United States and began working for Tiffany & Co. in 1967. She collaborated with the famous fashion house until 1984. At Tiffany's she became famous for the way she worked with 18-carat gold, platinum and silver, combining them with precious stones and combining them with unexpected materials such as wood and iron.
